Area Weather

The McCarthy/Kennicott area enjoys some of the nicest weather in the state of Alaska, being shielded by the Wrangell mountains to the north and the Chugach range to the south.

The average annual snowfall is 64.3 inches and the average snow depth during the winter months is 27 inches. Average precipitation is 19.2 inches.

If your visit is in the summer months, be prepared for warm sunny days and some chilly nights. (What night there is in the summer!) It is not uncommon for temperatures to fall below freezing some time during every month.
